Studies

Lymphocyte Adhesion to Candida albicans.

Standard Tests

Ever had all the symptoms of a yeast infection, only to be told you do not have a yeast infection? Ask your Gyn if they will check you for Labcorp NuSwab Candida Six-species Profile (180010) -  Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA) Technology.  Vaginal swab sample to test for the presence of:
  1. Candida albicans
  2. Candida glabrata (resistant to Diflucan)
  3. Candida tropicalis
  4. Candida krusei
  5. Candida parapsilosis
  6. Candida lusitaniae
Blood Test for Candida:  LabCorp test # 163135 Candida Antibodies, IgA, IgG, IgM, ELISA.    Problems with interpretation as below.
A positive test does not necessarily indicate infection since antibodies to Candida species can be detected in uninfected individuals because of their exposure to commensal yeasts. This assay is unable to differentiate antibodies formed during mucosal colonization from those produced during deep infection. Consequentially, antibodies are found in many hospitalized patients who have no obvious Candida infection. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of deep-seated candidiasis in immunocompromised patients.

Home Test Kit

CanDia5 tests a drop of your blood for antibody presence to any of the following. It does not tell you which of these you have. See above info about difficulties of interpreting antibodies and candida.
  1. Candida albicans
  2. Candida glabrata (resistant to Diflucan)
  3. Candida tropicalis
  4. Candida parapsilosis

Alternative Testing (not all equally reliable)

  • 1 hour post prandial blood alcohol test. Yeasts ferment sugar into alcohol.
  • Tartaric acid test - (by product of Saccromyces Cervesiae - autism)
  • Organic Acids Test
  • Stool Testing
